BCDR furthers its international arbitration training program

In April 2017, a new group of students successfully completed the International Arbitration Training Program of the Bahrain Chamber for Dispute Resolution (BCDR-AAA). This was the second edition of the program, which was launched on 6 September 2014 as part of BCDR-AAA's efforts to develop expertise in international arbitration within the region, and to increase awareness of arbitration as a viable dispute resolution alternative. Conducted in Arabic, the program consists of three modules, each of which lasts two days and includes twelve hours of training. The program was made possible through support from Tamkeen for Bahraini participants.

The first module starts with an overview of arbitration and then focuses on the agreement to arbitrate. The second module covers the formation and composition of an arbitral tribunal and the conduct of the arbitration proceedings. Lastly, the third module deals with enforcing and challenging arbitral awards.

The program was led by three specialists, highly experienced as both practitioners and academics:

• Dr. Adnan Amkhan Bayno - Mena Chambers, Director of MC Academy for International Legal Studies, and former visiting professor at several UK universities.
• Dr. Hamzah Haddad - Founder and Managing Director of the Law and Arbitration Center and the Arab Institute for Arbitration and Alternative Dispute Settlement in Jordan.
• Professor Nassib G. Ziadé - Chief Executive Officer of BCDR-AAA, Visiting Professor of Investment Arbitration at the University of Miami School of Law, and Professor of International Arbitration at the Faculty of Law of Saint-Joseph University in Beirut.
